Twenty community organizations and volunteer groups received a grant from the Municipality of Trent Lakes at the February 17, 2026, Council meeting, totalling at over $60,000 of funds distributed.

(February 5, 2026) — Lakelands Public Health is issuing a Cold Warning for the County of Haliburton, the City of Kawartha Lakes, Northumberland County and the City and County of Peterborough effective starting February 7th through to February 8th as Environment and Climate Change Canada is forecasting the weekends temperature lows near -20°C or colder. Morning and overnight wind chill values are expected to be well below actual air temperatures, frequently feeling like -30 °C to -35 °C or colder, especially early in the morning. These wind chill values can increase the risk of frostbite and other cold-related injuries if exposed for extended periods.

PETERBOROUGH, ON - Applications are now open for the 2026 Summer Company Program, offering students in the City of Peterborough and Peterborough County the opportunity to start and operate their own business while gaining hands-on entrepreneurial experience over the summer months.
PETERBOROUGH — The Ontario government is doubling the total funding available for municipal fire departments this year to $20 million. Dave Smith, MPP for Peterborough-Kawartha, announced that local fire services will receive a significant $316,565 portion of this investment to purchase life-saving equipment, enhance cancer prevention initiatives, and improve responses to lithium-ion battery incidents.

(January 22, 2026) – Lakelands Public Health is issuing a Cold Warning for the County of Haliburton, the City of Kawartha Lakes, Northumberland County and the City and County of Peterborough effective Saturday, January 24th to Sunday, January 25th, as Environment and Climate Change Canada forecasts low temperatures combined with significant wind chill values. Temperatures are expected to drop to -20°C, with wind chill reaching as low as -30 to-35, creating conditions that significantly increase the risk of frostbite and hypothermia.
